The 1888 Hotel, its name derived from the original date of construction, showcases Sydney’s old world charm while holding the title of the “World’s First Instagram Hotel”. It’s combination of old and new world charm generates an experience like no other.
Located in Pyrmont, Sydney’s inner-city suburb, neighboring attractions include dinning, shopping and site seeing. The hotel conveniently features an “Insta-Walk” around the hotel and Sydney’s Darling Harbour. Formed through collaboration with a local fashion blogger, the 45-minute trek offers picture perfect moments around every corner. But that’s not the only way the hotel has integrated the social app into their unique experience. The hotel also offers a free night to Instagram users with more than 10,000 followers. However, if you haven’t reached that milestone on your Instagram journey, snap a picture and upload it with the hashtag #1888Hotel for the opportunity to win a free night.
The 90-bedroom boutique hotel, which features an eatery and bar, is a natural hotspot for the avid Instagramer due to its fusion of rustic-modern decor. Rooms include high ceilings, exposed brick walls, original Iron Bark Beams, huge windows, bespoke furniture and artwork by Australian artists. Not to mention the complimentary WiFi, in-room iPads and walk in rain showers.
Whether you’re an Instagram fanatic looking to spice up your feed on your next vacation or someone just looking to enjoy the beautiful scenes Sydney has to offer, the 1888 Hotel has everything you need to accommodate your most aesthetically pleasing stay yet.

You’ve heard of the three blind mice, but have you heard of The Blind Butcher? Let’s hope he’s still got all his fingers! Successfully integrating the cool grit of a pub with unique and delicious entrées, The Blind Butcher serves butcher shop classics with a fun and creative twist.
The menu, which changes throughout the week, is based on seasonal availability and Chef Oliver Sitrin’s “worldly-local” cuisine. Most of the menu items, fully prepared in-house, include favorites like: hand cranked sausages, mustard, potato chips, cheeses and fermented vegetables. A great place to come with a group, the section of the menu entitled “BOARDS FOR SHARING” features duck fat fries, savory bread pudding and others. The bar offers 24 draft beers – local, American and European – as well as a worldly selection of affordable wines and cocktails. Co-owner, Yingling, explains “We want the food to shine and the bar menu to complement the food”. Not only focused on one aspect of the restaurant but the structure as a whole, one can fully experience the amusing appeal of food and space that the Blind Butcher has to offer.
To top it all off, the savory dishes are written out on specially crafted metal boards hung on the wall, only adding to the overall industrial composition. Open for dinner daily – 4pm to 2am – the space is accented with ambient lighting portraying a relaxed yet modern setting. The Blind Butcher is the perfect combination of environment and substance.
